What is the Pastor-Staff Relations Committee?

The Pastor-Staff Relations Committee is a group of church members who function as a bridge between members of our staff and members of our congregation. Our purpose is to provide support, appreciation, and encouragement to every one of our staff members. Each committee member is the liaison to specific staff members and seeks to build trusting, collaborative relationships with them through regular contact to support and encourage them in their area of ministry.

If needed, the staff person has a PSRC member they already know and trust to discuss challenges in their work responsibilities, with another staff member, or with members of the congregation. The PSRC may also be asked to share suggestions or concerns brought by church members with individual staff members in a way that is constructive and collaborative. All matters are addressed promptly and confidentially.

The committee advises the Leadership Team on HR policies, maintains the Staff Handbook, and works with the Financial Management Team on employee benefits. The PSRC also invites church members to contribute to the Staff Appreciation Gift during the holidays and determines the distribution of the money collected.

The committee consists of Pastor Jeff Root as our Head of Staff, Church Vice Chair Will Casey, and three elected members: Paul Bischoff, Bunny Mirrilees, and Chair Jana Goetz.

Prayer Support for Summer Camps

Summertime holds potential for fun and meaningful camp experiences for children, youth, leaders, and volunteers alike. From Covenant Camps in the Midwest, with members of our church family and others attending and serving, to Akagi Bible Camp in the mountains of central Japan, where our ministry partners Jim and Hydi are involved, camps are places where our lives may be enriched together. Let’s remember in prayer these summer camps and all those participating.

More specifically, in a recent message from Beth Fredrickson of Harbor Point Ministries she invites us to pray for the year-round and summer staff who will be ministering to children, youth, and families this summer. In signing up as Prayer Partners we will be offered a weekly newsletter with updates and prayer prompts. Camp posts on Instagram and Facebook may be followed as well. Summer Camp 2023 Prayer Partners may sign up here. Jim and Hydi invite us to pray as well for another great camping season at Akagi Bible Camp.

FEATURED UPDATES

thanks from the munsons!

To my wonderful Church Family,

My heart is full to overflowing with gratitude for all the love and support I have received after my mother’s recent passing.  Thank you for the beautiful flowering plant sent from the Church. It’s lovely and brings comfort every day.  The many cards, hugs, prayers, texts and calls have been overwhelming. Your care and concern is greatly appreciated. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

My mom always loved visiting our church. She often remarked how blessed we were to be part of such a loving community of faith.

With love,

Julie Munson

PENTECOST SUNDAY – WEAR RED

Pentecost Sunday is this coming Sunday, May 28th!  It is a worship celebration of the gift of the Holy Spirit and the liturgical color for Pentecost is RED

As a way of collectively celebrating the ‘tongues of fire’ of the Holy Spirit, and the unity that is ours in Christ – even in our differences – you are invited to wear the color red to worship on Sunday;

Red pants, red shirts, red jackets, red shoes, or simply a red ribbon.

Join in the festive story of Pentecost.

The Spirit came in power and the church was born!

Meet Susan Cornett, Our New Director of Children’s Ministry!

Susan was born in Incheon, South Korea, and immigrated to the United States with her family when she was nine. Not long after, she attended college and received a BS degree from Loyola University in Chemistry and a Master's in Clinical Laboratory Science from Rush Medical University.

However, Susan's passion for serving and sharing the love of Christ led her to Trinity International University, where she holds a BA degree in Management emphasizing Christian Leadership and down a path of 20 years of dedicated service as a youth pastor. Susan firmly believes that if Jesus takes root in a child's heart, that seed's fruit can and will continue to grow throughout their lives. Susan is grateful and excited to be part of the Glen Ellyn Evangelical Covenant Church.

She and her husband, David, and their two children Joshua and Aviel moved to Winfield in 2018 shortly after David was honorably discharged from the United States Navy. Susan enjoys playing the piano, traveling, and rooting for the Cubbies and the Bears!

Susan will begin her ministry with us on Tuesday, June 6th.

a message from the children’s ministry

There are great things happening in our Children’s Ministry!

Every week, the kids have been actively engaging with Sunday School lessons, activities and worship. They’ve played, sang worship songs, made crafts, and learned lessons regarding God’s love for them and his people.

We are so thankful for our team of volunteers, who enjoy working with the kids to plant kingdom seeds in their hearts. They have stepped out beautifully during this time of transition!

While we have wonderful volunteers, we are still in need of more to serve our children!

If you are looking for an opportunity to serve, please consider helping with children’s ministry. It is a perfect opportunity to spread the love of Jesus!

‘But Jesus said to them “Let the children come to me! Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who are like these children.” -Matthew 19:14
