A NOTE FROM THE MUNSON FAMILY

Dear Church Family,

Thank you for the beautiful floral arrangement sent to the Munson family in memory of Rowan, Bruce’s father and grandfather to Becca Rosengren and Jeremy Munson (members of GEECC) and Nate Munson, all of whom grew up in this church.  Rowan is best remembered by those who knew him for the salmon he prepared for the New Year’s Eve smörgåsbord the church once held in years past.  He and his wife, Shar, raised three sons, Bruce, Brian and Dan in the church. The flowers were a lovely reminder of a life well-lived in service to his family and to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We are so blessed to be part of a church whose members and friends have been such an integral part of our family’s lives throughout the years.

With love and gratitude,

Bruce and Julie for Shar and the Rowan Munson Family

WELCOME REFUGEES THROUGH WORLD RELIEF CHICAGOLAND!

Today, there are over 84 million people around the globe who have been forced, or made the painful choice, to leave their home. After years of fleeing violence, famine and extreme poverty, their greatest hope is that they’ll find a safe place to rebuild their lives and call home.

We have an opportunity to help through our ministry partner, World Relief Chicagoland!  World Relief Chicagoland (which is unrelated to our other ministry partner, Covenant World Relief)  helps churches in the Chicago area welcome refugees and immigrants into our community.

This past Sunday we heard from fellow GEECC'er Deborah Wright about her experience serving as a refugee Medical Advocate Volunteer.  Jim Hudson currently serves as a "Friendship Volunteer", Pastor Jeff is a Transportation Volunteer, and Darren Miller is an Apartment Setup Volunteer.  And, of course, many of us have enjoyed friendships with our Bhutanese and Burmese sister congregations who settled here through World Relief.  If you would like to volunteer, contact any of the volunteers listed above, or visit World Relief's volunteer page.

Our love offering this month supports World Relief Chicagoland.  To make a contribution, memo your check to "Love Offering" or "World Relief Chicagoland", or give online on our website and select "Give to World Relief Chicagoland".

THE WORK OF THE PEOPLE

When we gather for communal/corporate worship on Sunday mornings, we are given an order of worship that guides our participation in conversation with God. This order that contains prayer, scripture, song, silence, and communion is called ‘the liturgy’. Translated, the word liturgy means the work of the people. For most of us who work Monday – Friday, the thought of having to work in worship on a Sunday seems uninviting! However, worship liturgy calls us into full participation, into engagement, action, and response to God and his people. It’s an encouraging, restoring, and re-membering work.

This communal worship work is at it’s best when it is led by members of the community – the church. You are needed! You are needed to show up in the summer when you’re around. You are needed to help set up/clean up and serve communion. You are needed to read scripture. You are needed to usher/greet others as they come to our worship space. You are needed to serve coffee after worship as an extension of the hospitality that Christ just gave us in worship at his Table. You are needed to learn how to operate projection, streaming, and sound during worship. You are needed to love and care for children during worship.

You are needed because we function at our best as Christ followers when we do it together!

If you have any questions about how you can help out on a Sunday morning, contact any staff member.

We love you and need you,

The Staff

ALL CHURCH BARBEQUES ARE BACK!

Come join us at an open house barbecue every Wednesday from 5-7pm at Jeff & Jori’s backyard (1260 Shady Lane. Wheaton, IL 60187)!  Bring some meat to throw on the grill and a side dish to share, and perhaps a lawn chair to sit on. We will provide water and lemonade. Come enjoy your church community as we gather in fellowship together. The Barbecues will run from June 8th through August 17th (There will be no Barbecue on June 22nd, or July 6th). We hope to see you this summer!

LOST AND FOUND BEING CLEANED OUT

In an effort to keep our church beautiful and clean, we are updating and throwing old things out including items that’s been in lost and found for a very long time.

If you or a loved one has lost something at the church please stop by lost and found to see if your item is there.

At the end of June we will be throwing everything away so please don’t wait to take a look over there to see if you have something you might want to retrieve.

HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!

“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery” (Galatians 5:1, NIV).

We hope you have a safe and fun holiday!

South alcove gallery

Our own exhibit of MY SECRET DOUBLE is now on display in our sanctuary.  It compliments the traveling exhibit at Wheaton College but is done by our own artists from our congregation.  Come meditate on the reflections of our inner voices that no one sees but God.
