Children's Ministries

In children's ministries we summarize how we carry out our vision of living God's Love in three simple words: KNOW, GROW, and SHOW.

We want our kids to KNOW God,

GROW in their faith and Bible knowledge,

and to SHOW God's love to others.

Check out what we're up to below, and contact Pam Powell, Director of Children's Ministries, with any questions.

The Nursery is available year-round during Sunday morning worship to provide loving care for infants and toddlers through young two’s.  During the Sunday school hour (September to May), extended care is available and the babies and toddler curricula from Orange’s First Look is used to guide these precious little ones to LOVE GOD by inciting WONDER.

A Preschool Worship class is offered year-round during Sunday morning worship.  Our congregation is intentionally intergenerational and this is reflected by having the preschoolers begin worship on Sunday morning with their parents.  The children are invited up front for a special reading – this fall the readings are from Old Testament stories in The Jesus Storybook Bible – and then they leave with their teachers for a special Preschool Worship class time.

Preschool Sunday school classes are offered September to May.  The Preschool Worship class is divided into two age specific classrooms for continued learning.  Our Preschool Worship and Sunday school classes follow the First Look curriculum to incite WONDER, provoke DISCOVERY, and fuel PASSION to move kids to LOVE GOD.

Children's Worship

For most Sundays during the traditional school year, our K-5 kids are invited to participate in a beautiful time of spiritual learning and growing through our Children’s Worship ministry. This is a special time when the children are encouraged to learn to respect church as a sacred space to honor God, to be still and quiet and learn to hear their Creator’s voice, and to begin to discern when the Holy Spirit is leading them.  (Children remain in worship on the first Sunday of each month and most holiday weekends.)

Sunday School

Following the innovative Orange Curriculum, our Sunday school classes are focused on developing and strengthening good relationships based on one priority:

LOVE GOD…with all your heart and all your soul and with all your mind.

This is the first and greatest commandment.

And the second I like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself’

(Matthew 22:37-39)

The children begin in age-graded small groups for a time of fellowship and sharing.  They gather as a large group to sing praise and hear from God’s Word, then return to their small groups to engage in Bible study activities to reinforce the day’s lesson.

Kids @ Night

GCov Kids@Night is a time of fun, learning, and relationship building for children grades 1-5 offered the second Wednesdays of each month, September through May, from 6:30-8 pm.  This is an incredible multicultural ministry serving children from our congregation, the neighborhoods around our church, and many immigrant and/or refugee families.  The kids come together in small groups to share about their week, enjoy a snack together, and engage in a variety of activities such as dressing for a theme, Bible stories, participating in kid-friendly service projects, arts and crafts projects, and large group games. New this year, our church’s choir will join us for songs and movement during our closing group time.
